Cement Fluid Loss Control Additives

Cement Fluid Loss Control Additives
Perfect for Slurries with Low Water Levels

Perfect for Slurries with Low Water Levels

Oil and Gas Cement Fluid loss control additives minimize the loss of water from the slurry into permeable formations. This helps to maintain the properties of the cement slurry during placement and until the cement sets. Petrochem has multiple different types of fluid loss additives for oil well cement including gas control for high temperatures situations and balancing low-density slurries. Learn more about how fluid-loss additives can make curating cement easier for drilling operations.

Types of Fluid Lost Control Additives for Oil Well Cement

  • Petrochem - Low to Medium Temperature Fluid Loss Powder (P-F350) is a pre-dispersed non-retarding fluid-loss additive for use in low to medium temperature cement slurries < 350°F, in low or medium density slurries mixed with fresh to saturated salt water with early compressive strength.  P-F350 can be pre-dissolved in the mix water or dry blended in the cement.

  • Petrochem - High Temperature Fluid Loss Powder & Liquid (P-400 & P-400L) is a powder and liquid pre-dispersed non-retarding oil and gas fluid-loss additive made for low to high temperatures. P-400 minimizes the loss of water within the slurry. This additive is exceptional for low-density slurries, as they can be mixed with fresh and saltwater, and can help concrete to gain early compressive strength. It can be mixed into the water before or blended into the cement slurry during preparation.

  • Petrochem - High Temperature Fluid Loss Powder (P-F401) is a powdered high-temperature fluid loss additive that was originally intended for cement slurries with high concentrations of salt. This additive is excellent also for freshwater slurries that have high viscosities and it also has little retarding effect on the setting time. Things to note when using this product:
    • For the best results; don’t use a retarder in the slurry with P-F401.
      • A salt cement slurry without a retarder can get good fluid loss faster because P-F401 doesn’t have to deal with a retarder.
      • A salt cement slurry with a retarder and P-F401 would be a quick process; but still can be achieved with good results with this additive.
    • P-F401 can be used with combinations of dispersants but needs to be monitored carefully to avoid settling by overdispersion.

  • Petrochem - Medium Temperature Fluid Loss Additive Powder (P-FLA) is a powdered fluid-loss additive designed to handle temperatures up to 200°F. It can be added to fresh and saltwater slurries. P-FLA is compatible with all API classes of cement and works well with other additives.
    • Make sure all field workers use chemical goggles when using this product as it’s considered nuisance dust. Be careful not to get this product in the eyes.

  • Petrochem - Fluid Loss Powder for Extended Systems (P-FLE) is a fluid-loss additive designed specifically for low-density cement slurries. These slurries are obtained using special lightweight cement or extenders. Here are some things to know about using fluid-loss additives for extended systems:
    • Because of the added mix of water in extended cement systems with high fluid-loss values, this cement fluid control additive will show results in reduced cement fill up and increased hydrostatic pressure.
    • Petrochem recommends making small batches of cement slurry when using P-FLE.
    • P-FLE increases the viscosity of the slurry creates limiting densities and causes mixing difficulties.
    • P-FLE has a retarding effect and does not require the use of retarders for cement slurries. High early compression strength produces retarding effects, but the ultimate strength development will not be affected.

Contact a Fluid-loss Additive Advisor

At Petrochem, our cement fluid loss control additives are created to add water to cement slurries where the water/cement ratio was disproportionate. High temperature, medium temperature, and additives for extended systems are just a few additives that we offer as a cement additive supplier. Low-density slurries and climate conditions can change elements with your slurry; starting to prevent issues by using fluid-loss additives. Contact a professional concrete additive manufacturer to learn about how fluid loss additives can help your business in the oil field industry.
