Cement Dispersants

Cement Dispersants
Reducing Viscosity of Cement
Oil and Gas Cement

Reducing Viscosity of Cement

Oil and Gas Cement Dispersants act to reduce the viscosity of cement by breaking up aggregates of the fine cement particles. This reduction in viscosity allows mixing at lower water/cement ratios for higher density, improved fluid-loss control, and pumping at reduced pressures. Petrochem offers multiple types of oil & gas dispersants that are created for low and high temperatures, helps distribute the water and cement better throughout the slurry, and are created to work with most of Petrochem’s additives.

Types of Cement Dispersants

  • Petrochem - Dispersant & Anti Gelling Powder & Liquid (P-D88 & P-D88L) is a powdered and liquid cement chemical dispersant that can be dry blended with cement or dispersed in water through even distribution within the cement slurry. P-D88 can be used for low to high-density slurries with freshwater to saturated saltwater. Both of these oil & gas dispersants perform the same function with the difference being that one is the powdered state and the other is a liquid form. A couple of things to know when using a cement dispersant:
    • Chemical goggles are recommended when handling P-D88 as eye contact will result in irritation.
    • Resistant gloves should be worn as skin contact can cause irritation and mild burns depending on the period of exposure.
    • Oil well cementing is generally mixed with an excess of water than needed for the actual hydration of the slurry.
    • Excess water facilitates good pumping and cement dispersants reduce internal slurry friction and increase pumpability; dispersants reduce the need for water requirements for cement slurries.
    • Reduction in viscosity is achieved when using this additive because it reduces the water within the cement slurry; thus making it more proportional and offering a better-curated product.

Contact a Cement Dispersant Professional

At Petrochem, we want your cement slurries to be mixed to perfection so that the product isn’t too watery or causes issues when drilling operations are being performed. Please contact a concrete additive supplier specialist when choosing the best solutions for mixing large batches of cement slurries within the field. Petrochem is proud of offering multiple dispersant cement additives that can help high-density slurries and making sure that the water/cement ratio is perfect even at high and low temperatures can make the mixing process problematic.
